Three Month Order Retreat

Every Autumn Guhyaloka hosts a three month retreat for members of the Triratana Buddhist Order. Traditionally the Buddha's disciples held a three month 'Rains' retreat during the monsoon season. There were obvious practical reasons for this but it was also an opportunity for the disciples to live communally and deepen their practice and develop their friendships. Our retreat is one in which each man can follow his own inclinations - either more meditation, or more study for example - but within a communal context.
We meditate together two or three times a day, eat together, cook and clean up for each other, and study together - but there are long periods of silence and time for solitary contemplation.
