How to get here

The closest airport to Guhyaloka is at Alicante and there are many cheap flights available from around Europe (from the UK you could try Easyjet, Monarch and BmiBaby, although there are others). Generally it's best to arrive in the morning to allow yourself time to get to Guhyaloka in daylight (it generally takes 3-4 hours to get to the pick up point at the Refugio at Font de L'Arc).

ALICANTE AIRPORT TO VILLAJOYOSA

The recent opening of a new tram station in the centre of Alicante makes travel to Villajoyosa much easier. So these are new details - don't travel to Villajoyosa from Alicante bus station (you can end waiting 2-3 hours), and don't take the tram line on Alicante sea front (as you'll have to change to get to Villajoyosa).

The station in the centre of Alicante is called MERCADO, and the tram leaves every hour (two minutes past) and takes 45 minutes to get to Villajoyosa. It costs 2 euros and is very reliable.

So from the airport take the bus C6 (every 40 mins between 7am and 11pm) into Alicante to the Mercado Central (an old building that houses a market). This should take about 30-40 minutes. From there you're very close to the tram station. Walk a block or so further along the road (Avda Alphonso X el Sabio) for a few more minutes in the direction of the big castle on the hill. The station is underground so you'll find some wide steps descending next to a lift (this is not well signed, but there is a 'Tram' sign on the lift).

You want the RED L1 tramline, and trams run two minutes past the hour every hour.

Villajoyosa has two stations: the first called VILLAJOYOSA and this is NOT the one you want. The second is called CREUETA, which is the right one. This is the last stop on the line so no chance of overshooting.

TO GET TO THE TAXI RANK:

Once off the tram you need to head to the taxi rank.

Cross the train line at the level crossing and head down (towards the sea) along the right hand road, called Juan Carlos 1 (runs along the right hand side of the entrance to an underground car park). A few hundred yards you will meet the main road through Villajoyosa where there's a small square, Plaza de la Generalitat, and a taxi rank. You're next to the bridge over the dry river bed of the Rio Amadorio here, just in case you get lost.

Before getting in a taxi phone Guhyaloka to say you are in Villajoyosa so that the support team can set off to meet you at the pick up point at the Refugio (Font de L'Arc). Call the Guhyaloka Office Telephone on 647240791 (prefix 0034 if using a UK mobile), which has a voice mail service if no one is in the office. Please note that there is no phone at the Refugio (although there is some mobile phone coverage) and the nearest phone is in Sella, a village 4 km away.

Take a taxi to the pick up point at the Refugio (a mountaineer's refuge in the hills near us), pronounced 're-fyoo-hee-o', or 'Font de l'Arc' (the name in Valenciano). The taxi ride should cost about 20-25 Euros and take 20 minutes. Once at the Refugio wait for the pick up.

If you have any problems or doubts about how to get here then please call or email us and we will be able to advise you.

Please note that you should let us know when you are arriving (flight details etc) at least a week in advance so that we can arrange for someone to be around to meet you.
